As a student, first, you should understand what communication involves. What is communication, in your viewpoint? Talking or listening to someone? As you know communication is a two-way process. Speaking and listening are two elements of communication, but the true meaning is sharing emotions and knowledge with one another for a specific reason.

If you want to develop your communication skills, you must be able to listen effectively as well as communicate effectively. Your ability to effectively communicate helps you create a positive impression and have an engaging conversation.

You must practice constantly to communicate effectively.

Here are some tips to help you master the art of effective communication.

1.Make new friends

You must have made a lot of friends during your time at school. Have you ever thought about how to start a conversation with someone in order to make a new friend? If he or she is in your class, introduce yourself and ask what his or her favorite subject is. Once the conversation starts, you’ll feel comfortable talking.

Here, you will develop your social skills, such as interacting with others and giving an effective speech.

2. Put your own opinion

When you are with your friends and they are discussing a specific topic, try to express your opinion or point of view in front of them. For example, if your group is discussing whether to participate in a school exhibition, you can make suggestions and offer unique ideas to encourage them to participate. You will improve your team effective communication skills by expressing your thoughts in a group. When they agree, you will feel more confident in your effective communication.

3. Listening requires patience.

Always remember “You can’t listen until and unless you are silent.” Do you know what makes the term “LISTEN” unique? You can find the “SILENT” word by rearranging its alphabet. When someone is speaking to you and trying to express his/her opinion, you must listen to him/her. If you interrupt him/her, the discussion may be disrupted or the other person may believe you are not paying attention. However, if you listen to them without interrupting, they will feel more confident in expressing themselves and once they are finished, you can share your opinion or advice.

To enhance communication skills, you must first have good listening skills. For example, if someone is giving a speech, pay attention to them and make them feel like you are listening. Then you can provide feedback, ask questions and discover your areas of interest.

4. Active Listening

Listening actively involves listening with all your senses. Active learning seeks to comprehend rather than respond. In other words, gestures such as “I see”, “Don’t worry”, “I understand” and “Thank you”. Let’s look at an example: You did something wrong and your parents are telling you about it. Instead of responding, try to understand what they’re saying and then explain your view of the situation to them.

You will never miss the important message of what the speaker stated if you have excellent active listening abilities. You will also recognize the distinction between verbal and nonverbal communication.

Verbal Communication

Non- Verbal Communication
